Zetacoin (ZET) is an early cryptocurrency launched in 2013, initially based on SHA256 for fast transactions. It experienced vulnerabilities due to rapid block times. To address this, a major code upgrade in late 2021 transitioned Zetacoin to a hybrid Proof-of-Work (Scrypt-based) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Zetacoin achieves enhanced energy efficiency primarily through its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) component. While it retains a Proof-of-Work (PoW) element for initial minting and network security, its hybrid PoW/PoS design significantly reduces overall energy consumption. Unlike solely PoW-based cryptocurrencies that often require energy-intensive ASIC mining, Zetacoin's integration of PoS contributes to a lower environmental impact and more sustainable network operation.

Only coins on the new Zetacoin chain, with addresses beginning with "9...", are currently supported. Legacy coins from the old chain, with addresses starting with "Z...", are no longer active.
