Wrapped ThunderPOKT (wtPOKT) is a liquid staking token designed to provide a DeFi-compatible version of staked Pocket Network (POKT) tokens. It represents POKT that is actively staked in nodes managed by the Thunderhead infrastructure. By holding wtPOKT, users participate in the Pocket Network ecosystem, which provides decentralized RPC infrastructure, while benefiting from a token structure optimized for integration with various decentralized finance applications.

While tPOKT is a rebasing token where the balance in your wallet increases as rewards are earned, wtPOKT maintains a fixed balance. This makes wtPOKT more suitable for many decentralized finance protocols that cannot handle fluctuating balances. Instead of the token count increasing, the value of wtPOKT grows relative to tPOKT. Essentially, wtPOKT acts as a wrapper that captures the underlying staking rewards without changing the number of tokens held in the user's wallet.

Rewards in wtPOKT are not reflected through a daily increase in token quantity. Instead, the reward mechanism functions through an increasing redemption rate. As node rewards accumulate within the Thunderhead ecosystem, each wtPOKT token becomes redeemable for a larger amount of tPOKT over time. Users can realize these rewards by unwrapping their wtPOKT back into tPOKT via the designated platform interface, or by trading the token on an exchange where its value reflects the accrued staking yield.

wtPOKT is primarily deployed on the Polygon network, chosen for its low-fee environment. Users can manage their tokens by importing the official contract address into their digital wallets. Trading is available on major trading platforms and decentralized exchanges. There are two primary ways to exit a wtPOKT position. If a user chooses to trade wtPOKT for another asset on a supported exchange like LBank, the process is instantaneous. However, if a user opts to natively unstake by converting wtPOKT back to tPOKT and then to native POKT, they must adhere to the Pocket Network’s protocol rules. This typically involves a 21-day unbonding period before the native tokens become accessible.

Holding wtPOKT involves a few specific risks. First is slashing risk, where nodes may lose a portion of their stake if they underperform or provide incorrect data. While Thunderhead manages nodes to minimize this, the risk is ultimately passed to token holders. Additionally, there is smart contract risk, common to all DeFi assets, relating to potential vulnerabilities in the wrapping or staking contracts. Finally, users should be aware of liquidity risk, which may result in slippage during large trades on decentralized platforms.
