Torus is a decentralized blockchain protocol developed by Renlabs, specifically designed to enable autonomous AI agents to self-organize into "intelligent swarms." It utilizes a unique "stake-anchored agentic protocol" inspired by biological systems, such as immune memory, to manage network resources and permissions. Unlike traditional AI platforms, Torus provides a cohesive environment where agents operate under a unified authority structure to ensure network-wide alignment and scalability.

While Commune AI functions as a platform for various independent projects, Torus enforces a unified, stake-anchored design to ensure network-wide alignment. Rebuilt by Renlabs, Torus offers a more cohesive architectural vision and improved scalability. It moves away from the fragmented approach of independent projects toward a synchronized system where incentives and authority are anchored to a central protocol, providing a more stable environment for agent coordination.

$TORUS is the native utility token of the protocol, serving as the "monetary energy" that drives agent incentives. It is designed as a non-inflationary token, with its total supply initially linked to the migration from the previous ecosystem. The token is essential for staking to secure the network, participating in governance via DAO treasury voting, and providing the stake necessary to permission autonomous agents. Users can acquire $TORUS on exchanges like LBank and bridge them to the native Torus network.

To participate in staking, users must transfer their $TORUS tokens to a compatible native wallet, such as SubWallet or the official Torus Web Wallet. After connecting to the Torus mainnet, users delegate their tokens to a validator node. Rewards are distributed from network emissions as an incentive for securing the blockchain. While initial reward rates can be high to encourage early adoption, they typically stabilize as more participants join the staking pool and the network matures.

The protocol implements a 14-day unbonding period for users who wish to unstake their tokens. For validators, there is an additional safeguard that limits unstaking to 10% per request to maintain network stability. In terms of risk, Torus utilizes a "slashing" mechanism. If a validator acts maliciously or fails to fulfill its duties, a portion of the staked tokens delegated to that node may be penalized or lost. This ensures that all participants are financially incentivized to maintain network integrity.

A Root Agent is the only fully on-chain entity that acts as the primary anchor for the protocol’s authority and incentive mechanisms. All other agents on the network are permissioned based on the amount of stake they hold or have been delegated. These agents can form "Agent Swarms," which are groups of autonomous programs collaborating to solve complex tasks. Developers can register their agents on the network to provide specialized services and earn $TORUS rewards based on their contribution to the swarm.
