The native SCIE token, initially an elastic supply token, played a crucial role by enabling these mechanisms. Its rebase feature generated profits, which were then directed to fund science and technology-related start-ups, aligning the token's economics directly with its philanthropic mission.

The "Scientia Trust" represents the long-term aspirational goal of the Scientia project. Scientia launched in October 2021 as an elastic supply token, featuring a rebase mechanism on the Binance Smart Chain. This mechanism involved negative rebases in cycles, where generated profits were channeled to support science and technology initiatives. However, early in 2022, the Scientia community made a significant decision to discontinue the rebasing feature. Consequently, while SCIE operated with elastic supply for a period, its rebase mechanism is no longer active, reflecting an evolution in the project's tokenomics based on community consensus.

Historically, all transactions involving SCIE tokens were subject to a 9.42% transaction tax. This tax was strategically distributed to serve multiple purposes within the project's ecosystem. Portions of the tax were allocated to enhance the liquidity pool, ensuring stable trading. Another segment was directed towards the core mission of science funding. The remaining part was used for buybacks of the SCIE token. The project's website notes that after smart contract ownership renunciation, the tax distribution automatically supports buyback, liquidity, and developer/project costs.

According to the official ScientiaToken website, the Scientia Token project is explicitly stated as not being actively developed anymore.
