Oasis Network is a decentralized layer-1 blockchain platform designed to prioritize data privacy and scalability within the Web3 ecosystem. The project is built on a modular architecture that separates the network into two main components: the Consensus Layer and the ParaTime Layer. The Consensus Layer is a scalable, high-throughput proof-of-stake mechanism run by a decentralized set of validator nodes. This technology enables developers to build private smart contracts, allowing for decentralized applications that can handle sensitive personal data like health records or financial information securely. The project aims to foster what it calls a Responsible Data Economy. In this model, individuals can maintain ownership and control over the data they generate, with the ability to provide access to it while keeping the underlying information private. The network is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, meaning developers can easily port over existing Ethereum-based applications while taking advantage of the privacy and scalability features of the Oasis infrastructure. The ROSE token serves as the native utility asset for the ecosystem. It is primarily used for paying transaction fees on the network. Additionally, the token is used for staking, where participants help secure the network. Token holders also have the ability to participate in governance, voting on proposals that influence the future development and direction of the protocol. By combining high throughput with confidential computing, the Oasis Network seeks to bridge the gap between traditional data privacy and decentralized technology. It supports a variety of use cases ranging from private decentralized finance to secure data marketplaces and non-fungible tokens.
