OPTIM FINANCE (O) FAQ
What is the $O token migration and how does it affect holders?
Optim Finance recently transitioned from its original $OPTIM token to a more programmable version called $O. As part of this migration, the total supply was reduced from 100 million to 25 million tokens. Public holders received a 1:1 conversion from $OPTIM to $O. To prioritize long-term protocol health, allocations for the Team and VCs were reduced at a 4:1 ratio and placed on extended vesting schedules lasting between 7 to 10 years, ensuring better alignment with the community.
How do Liquidity Bonds work on the Optim Finance platform?
Liquidity Bonds allow users to "rent" their ADA staking power without transferring ownership of the underlying assets. Lenders deposit ADA into a smart contract that grants staking rights (delegation power) to a borrower, such as a Stake Pool Operator (SPO). Lenders retain custody of their ADA while earning a higher yield, paid by the borrower, than traditional staking. Borrowers benefit by accessing the delegation needed to bootstrap their projects or pools without requiring massive upfront collateral.
Why might a Liquidity Bond be cancelled before its scheduled end date?
A bond is typically cancelled early if the borrower fails to maintain the required interest payments. Borrowers generally prepay interest for a specific number of epochs; if they do not "refill" these funds, the smart contract automatically cancels the bond. When a cancellation occurs, the ADA is returned to the contract. Users must then manually withdraw their ADA from the smart contract to begin earning rewards through other pools or new bond positions.
What are the differences between OADA and sOADA?
OADA (Optim ADA) is a 1:1 synthetic derivative of ADA designed as a "liquid" version for use in decentralized finance activities like providing liquidity or lending. It does not earn yield independently. sOADA (Staked OADA) is the token users receive when they stake their OADA through the Optim protocol. sOADA is a yield-bearing asset that captures both base staking rewards and additional protocol efficiencies, generally providing a higher return than standard native ADA staking.
Has Optim Finance been audited and what are the security considerations?
Optim Finance has been audited by several reputable security firms, including Tweag, MLabs, and Anastasia Labs. While the protocol is designed so that borrowers never take custody of lender funds, those funds are held within smart contracts rather than staying directly in a user's wallet. This introduces smart contract risk; if an exploit were to occur within the contract code, deposited funds could be at risk. This is a primary distinction from native Cardano staking.
What is the primary utility of the native $O token?
The $O token serves multiple roles within the ecosystem. It provides governance through the ODAO, allowing holders to vote on treasury management and protocol parameters. It also includes a "fee switch" mechanism that can distribute protocol revenue to $O stakers. Furthermore, $O is intended to function as a utility and gas token for the upcoming Leviathan L2 scaling solution and will play a role in future features like the OUSD stablecoin and automated strategy vaults.
