FTM3S is a specialized leveraged token engineered to offer 3x short exposure to FTM (Fantom). This means it aims to amplify the inverse price movements of FTM, allowing traders to potentially profit from downward trends in Fantom's value. Its design is rooted in futures trading mechanisms to achieve this leveraged effect.

FTM3S operates by leveraging the price movements of FTM. Specifically, if the price of FTM decreases by 1%, the Net Asset Value (NAV) of FTM3S is designed to increase by 3%. Conversely, should the FTM price rise, the NAV of FTM3S would decrease proportionally. This mechanism aims to provide amplified returns in a bearish FTM market and amplified losses in a bullish one.

Holding FTM3S carries significant risks, primarily due to its leveraged nature and inherent rebalancing mechanism. High market volatility can adversely impact the token's Net Asset Value (NAV), potentially leading to decay over time, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as "volatility drag." Consequently, these tokens are generally not recommended for long-term holding positions, as their performance can deviate significantly from the underlying asset's inverse movement over extended periods.

Rebalancing is a fundamental process for FTM3S and other leveraged tokens. It involves automatically adjusting the underlying assets within the token's portfolio to maintain its target leverage ratio (in this case, 3x short exposure to FTM). While essential for maintaining the intended leverage, frequent rebalancing during periods of high market volatility can lead to a phenomenon known as "volatility decay" or "wear and tear" on the Net Asset Value, impacting long-term performance.

A reverse split on FTM3S occurs when the token's value has fallen substantially, making its price very low. During a reverse split, a predefined number of existing FTM3S tokens are consolidated into a smaller quantity of new tokens, each with a proportionally higher value. For holders, this means the total number of tokens they own decreases, but the overall market value of their holdings remains unchanged. This action is typically performed by trading platforms to ensure easier trading and prevent issues with decimal precision at extremely low token prices.
