CIOTX primarily solves the problem of interoperability for the IoTeX token, enabling its use across various blockchain networks. The broader IoTeX project addresses the critical need to securely and decentrally connect the physical world, especially IoT devices, with blockchain technology. Blockchain provides an appropriate solution by ensuring trust, transparency, and data privacy for interactions between humans and machines, which is essential for a robust and secure IoT ecosystem.

Crosschain IOTX (CIOTX) is a wrapped version of the native IoTeX (IOTX) token. Its purpose is to facilitate interoperability by being bridged to various blockchain networks, including major smart contract platforms. This is achieved through a decentralized cross-chain bridge, enabling seamless exchange and interaction between the IoTeX network and other supported blockchains. CIOTX expands the utility and reach of the IoTeX token beyond its native chain.

IOTX is the native token of the IoTeX blockchain. WIOTX (Wrapped IOTX) is an ERC20 token on the IoTeX blockchain, representing a wrapped version of native IOTX to enable compatibility with other ERC20 services within the IoTeX ecosystem. CIOTX (Crosschain IOTX) is a bridge-based version of IOTX deployed across multiple external chains. It facilitates cross-chain functionality and maintains a 1:1 swap ratio with native IOTX and WIOTX on the IoTeX network. Efforts are being made to establish CIOTX as the standard for cross-chain IOTX to reduce complexity.

IoTeX employs a comprehensive security strategy for CIOTX and its cross-chain bridges. This includes using a dedicated bridging mechanism like iotube, designed for secure token transfers. The foundational IoTeX token benefits from Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for robust network security. Additionally, the project relies on audits from reputable security firms for new deployments and consistently leverages trusted infrastructure for its bridging solutions to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of cross-chain operations.

As a wrapped version of IOTX, CIOTX holds significant utility within the IoTeX ecosystem and across other connected networks. It can be utilized for core functions such as paying transaction fees (gas) on the IoTeX blockchain and for participating in staking mechanisms to secure the network. Crucially, CIOTX enhances interoperability and liquidity, allowing the token to move and function seamlessly across various blockchain platforms, thereby expanding its overall accessibility and use cases.

CIOTX can be acquired through several avenues within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Users can purchase it on various centralized exchange platforms that list the token, often by trading stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies.
