Altair is a decentralized finance project that serves as the canary network for Centrifuge. The AIR token is the native utility token of the Altair network. It serves several critical functions within the ecosystem. First, it is used as the gas token to pay for transaction fees and smart contract executions. Second, it plays a central role in network governance, allowing token holders to vote on proposals, protocol upgrades, and the overall direction of the project. Third, the token is used for staking and securing the network through its consensus mechanism. Technically, Altair focuses on interoperability, aiming to connect with other blockchain ecosystems like Ethereum and Polkadot to increase liquidity for tokenized assets. However, recent developments within the Centrifuge governance community have introduced proposals to deprecate the Altair chain.
