3DPass is a decentralized, open-source Layer 1 blockchain platform often referred to as The Ledger of Things. The project focuses on the tokenization of real-world and virtual objects by transforming them into unique digital identities. It is built using the Substrate framework and is designed to provide a secure way to manage ownership and authenticity for various types of assets, including 3D models, 2D drawings, biometrics, music, and radio signals. The core of the platform is a novel consensus mechanism called Proof of Scan. This protocol uses advanced 3D object recognition technology to verify the uniqueness of an asset. When an object is scanned, the network utilizes the Grid2d algorithm to generate a stable cryptographic identifier known as a HASH ID. This HASH ID acts as a digital fingerprint that remains consistent for the same object even if it is scanned multiple times. By doing so, the network can distinguish between original items and potential fakes or duplicates, addressing the issue of unauthorized asset copying in the digital space. Miners on the 3DPass network participate in a process where they use unique-shaped 3D objects as a form of puzzle-solving to find new blocks. This approach is intended to be ASIC-resistant and CPU-friendly, promoting a more distributed mining environment. The network also utilizes validators to maintain deterministic finality and overall security. The native utility token of the project is P3D. Within the ecosystem, this token is used to pay for network services such as gas fees, storage fees, and object authentication fees. It also serves as an incentive for miners and validators who maintain the infrastructure. The 3DPRC-2 standard has been introduced by the project to facilitate the tokenization of objects into either non-fungible or fungible assets. Potential use cases for 3DPass include the management of Real World Assets, digital twins, Internet of Things integration, and gaming applications. The platform supports smart contracts, allowing developers to create decentralized applications that are directly tethered to physical or virtual objects.
