What is Sturdy (STRDY)?

Sturdy (STRDY) is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol designed to change how users interact with lending and borrowing platforms. It functions as a decentralized yield farming fund. Sturdy facilitates interest-free borrowing for users while offering lenders opportunities for high yields on their deposits. It operates as a lending protocol that accepts interest-bearing tokens as collateral. A key feature of Sturdy is its two-tier architecture, which is designed to isolate risk between different assets and prevent liquidity fragmentation. The base layer consists of risk-isolated pools, with an aggregation layer built on top. This structure allows lenders to choose which collateral assets are used against their deposits, enhancing security and efficiency. Rather than charging borrowers interest, Sturdy stakes their collateral and directs the generated yield to lenders, aiming to create a positive-sum lending environment. Borrowers can leverage collateral assets, such as Convex LP tokens, to achieve up to 10x leverage in yield farming. Loans are typically interest-free, with interest only applying in specific situations where reserve utilization surpasses 80%. Sturdy launched on Fantom in March 2022 and on Ethereum in June 2022. The STRDY token is the native utility token of the Sturdy protocol. It is used for governance, allowing token holders to participate in decision-making processes regarding the protocol's future. Additionally, STRDY incentivizes liquidity mining, rewarding users who provide liquidity to the platform's pools. The total supply of STRDY tokens is capped at 100,000,000. Tokens became claimable in early 2023 and were initially non-transferrable. Sturdy emphasizes composability within the DeFi ecosystem, integrating with various protocols like Curve and Convex, and partnering with Web3 projects such as Unstoppable Domains and Push Protocol. The platform supports a range of wallets, including Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, and Walletconnect. Sturdy has undergone several audits and maintains an active bug bounty program for security. However, Sturdy V1 experienced a hack on June 12, 2023, resulting in a loss of $770,000 on the Ethereum chain. Learn more

Sturdy (STRDY) FAQ

Sturdy is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol enabling interest-free borrowing while providing lenders with high-yield opportunities on their deposits. It features a unique two-tier architecture that isolates risks associated with different assets, enhancing security within its ecosystem. This architecture includes risk-isolated pools at the base layer with an aggregation layer on top, allowing lenders control over collateral assets and minimizing liquidity fragmentation. This design fosters a secure and efficient environment for financial transactions.
Sturdy aims to establish liquid money markets for various tokens, allowing yield farmers to leverage their positions by using interest-bearing tokens as collateral. Lenders receive a share of the yield farming profits, creating a positive-sum environment where borrowers are not charged interest. The yield for lenders is generated from the interest earned on the borrowers' collateral. For example, if a borrower deposits WFTM as collateral, Sturdy can stake it in various yield generation protocols, and the earned interest is then converted and distributed to lenders.
The STRDY token is the native utility token of the Sturdy protocol, primarily serving governance functions. Token holders can participate in decision-making processes concerning the protocol's future direction and development. Beyond governance, STRDY can also be utilized for potential arbitrage opportunities due to its price fluctuations. Additionally, it can generate income through staking or lending within various financial management strategies supported by the ecosystem, providing multiple avenues for token utility and engagement.
STRDY tokens are available for trading on various decentralized exchanges (DEXs). Users can purchase STRDY by connecting a digital wallet to a preferred DEX, selecting STRDY for a swap, specifying the desired amount, and then executing the transaction. While it's possible to acquire less than one STRDY token, most cryptocurrency platforms typically require a minimum purchase amount. Always ensure the chosen platform is reputable and secure before making any transactions.
Sturdy implements security measures, including recommending hardware wallets like Ledger for secure STRDY token storage and emphasizing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). However, Sturdy has indeed experienced security breaches. In June 2023, the protocol lost 442 ETH due to a vulnerability that allowed attackers to manipulate prices. Sturdy Finance acknowledged the exploit, promptly paused markets, and reassured users that no additional funds were at risk at that time, demonstrating a quick response to the incident.
The crypto market is highly unpredictable, and all investments, including Sturdy Token, carry inherent risks. STRDY's price is influenced by market supply and demand, with growing adoption being a significant factor. Events like protocol updates or large-holder activity can also impact its valuation. As a blockchain asset, STRDY is considered high-risk, and thorough research is essential before investing. DeFi projects like Sturdy face risks such as code bugs, flash crashes, and potential exploitation. The 2023 security incident highlighted these inherent risks within DeFi protocols.
