Shardeum is designed for accessibility with relatively low hardware requirements: a 4-core CPU, 16GB RAM, and 250GB SSD. To run a validator, the community-set minimum stake is approximately 2,400 SHM. For users who prefer not to operate their own hardware, the network supports delegation, allowing token holders to stake their SHM with existing validators to earn rewards.
Shardeum utilizes Dynamic State Sharding, which allows the number of shards to automatically adjust based on network demand, enabling the transaction speed to increase as more nodes join. It achieves instant finality through a unique consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Quorum (PoQ) combined with Proof-of-Stake (PoS), allowing transactions to be processed and finalized individually rather than waiting for block batches.
