Hyperliquid (HYPE) FAQ
Hyperliquid is a decentralized perpetual exchange (DEX) built on its own custom Layer-1 blockchain. Unlike DEXs that operate on general-purpose blockchains, Hyperliquid's L1 is specifically optimized for high-frequency trading, featuring sub-second block times and a fully on-chain order book. It is a Layer-1. Its core exchange and "HyperEVM" run on a sovereign blockchain, distinct from other networks, utilizing a custom consensus mechanism called HyperBFT.
The HYPE token serves four main functions. It is used for Staking, allowing users to secure the network through Proof-of-Stake. Holders can participate in Governance, voting on protocol upgrades and Hyperliquid Improvement Proposals (HIPs). HYPE also acts as the native Gas Fee token for transactions on the HyperEVM layer. Additionally, stakers may receive Trading Incentives, such as fee discounts or allocations from new project launches within the ecosystem.
The initial major airdrop, known as the "Genesis Event," occurred on November 29, 2024. Eligibility was determined by "Points" earned through platform engagement, including trading volume and providing liquidity. Yes, there are plans for future community rewards, with a significant portion of the total supply reserved for "Future Emissions and Community Rewards." Users can continue to earn rewards by actively trading on the platform, contributing liquidity to vaults like HLP, or participating in the HyperEVM ecosystem.
HyperEVM is a smart-contract layer built on the Hyperliquid L1, designed for compatibility with standard smart-contract development tools. This compatibility allows developers to create decentralized applications (dApps) that can directly interact with Hyperliquid's high-speed order book. It expands the functionality of the L1 beyond just the perpetual exchange, enabling a broader ecosystem of decentralized services and facilitating seamless integration for developers accustomed to established virtual machine environments.
Most users bridge a stablecoin like USDC from other major blockchains using Hyperliquid’s native bridge. While bridging funds onto the platform is typically straightforward, users frequently inquire about withdrawal times. Withdrawals back to certain networks are usually fast, but transfers to other major blockchains may involve longer settlement periods, sometimes ranging from one to seven days, depending on the destination network's finality requirements.
