STEAKHOUSE USDC (BASE) MORPHO VAULT (STEAKUSDC) FAQ
What is steakUSDC?
steakUSDC is a yield-bearing receipt token representing a user's deposit in the Steakhouse Vault on the Base network. When you deposit USDC into the vault, you receive steakUSDC tokens. The value of these tokens increases over time relative to USDC as the vault earns interest from lending activities, allowing users to redeem their steakUSDC for more USDC than they originally contributed.
How does the "Dual Engine" strategy work?
The Dual Engine strategy optimizes yield by lending USDC against two distinct types of collateral. The first engine focuses on blue-chip crypto assets, such as wrapped Staked ETH (wstETH) and liquid Bitcoin derivatives. The second engine utilizes Real-World Assets (RWA), specifically lending against tokenized U.S. Treasury bills. This approach diversification helps balance DeFi-native yields with traditional financial stability.
Who is responsible for managing the vault?
The vault is curated and managed by Steakhouse Financial, a specialized risk management firm within the decentralized finance ecosystem. They are responsible for selecting lending markets, determining Loan-to-Value (LLTV) limits, and choosing the price oracles used by the protocol. Their management ensures that the vault operates within specific risk parameters to protect liquidity providers.
Why might the APY vary across different platforms?
Differences in displayed yield typically stem from performance fees. The vault usually applies a performance fee, often 25%, on the native USDC interest earned. Some interfaces might display the gross yield, while others, including major exchange lending programs, show the net yield after fees have been deducted. Users should verify if the rate they see is pre- or post-fee to understand their actual returns.
How are MORPHO rewards distributed and compounded?
The vault may earn additional rewards in the form of MORPHO tokens. While the primary USDC interest compounds automatically by increasing the steakUSDC token value, these extra rewards generally do not compound on their own. Depending on the interface used, these rewards may need to be claimed manually. To compound them, users must sell the rewards for USDC and re-deposit them into the vault.
What security measures protect the vault from risks?
To mitigate risks such as smart contract vulnerabilities or oracle failures, the vault incorporates a 7-day timelock on all major parameter changes to prevent sudden or malicious updates. Furthermore, a "Guardian" multisig can freeze the vault or veto dangerous changes. The underlying Morpho Blue protocol also undergoes extensive security audits by top-tier firms like Cantina and OpenZeppelin to ensure the safety of the code.
