EUROP is a euro-denominated stablecoin project launched by Schuman Financial, a fintech company founded by former executives from Binance Europe alongside experts from the traditional finance and policymaking sectors. The token is designed as a digital representation of the euro, maintaining a stable value through a one-to-one peg with the fiat currency. The project distinguishes itself through its regulatory status, as it is one of the first stablecoins to be fully compliant with the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, known as MiCA. It is issued under a license from the French banking authority, the ACPR, which is the supervisory arm of the Banque de France. This regulatory alignment provides a legal framework for the token to operate across the European Economic Area. Technologically, EUROP is built to be interoperable across multiple blockchain networks. It initially launched on Ethereum and Polygon and has since integrated with other platforms including the XRP Ledger and Avalanche. This multi-chain approach is intended to facilitate seamless transactions and liquidity across different decentralized ecosystems. The token is fully backed by reserves consisting of euro cash and cash equivalents. These reserves are held at prominent European financial institutions, such as Societe Generale. To ensure transparency and trust, the project undergoes regular independent audits conducted by the global accounting firm KPMG. These audits verify that every token in circulation is supported by an equivalent amount of euro-denominated assets in reserve. The primary utility of EUROP includes facilitating global on-chain payments, serving as a stable asset for decentralized finance protocols, and acting as a bridge for tokenizing real-world assets. It is used for lending, borrowing, and foreign exchange activities within the Web3 space. By providing a regulated, euro-denominated alternative to dollar-based stablecoins, the project aims to increase the euro's presence in the digital asset market and support the transition of traditional financial services onto the blockchain.
