RENZO RESTAKED SOL (EZSOL) FAQ
What is Renzo Restaked SOL (ezSOL)?
ezSOL is Renzo Protocol's primary vault restaking token for the Solana ecosystem. It represents a user's staked and restaked position on the Jito Network, a core component of Solana's infrastructure. Its primary purpose is to simplify and democratize access to Solana restaking, enabling users to participate in advanced yield-generating strategies without managing complex infrastructure, thereby making restaking more user-friendly and widely available.
How does ezSOL work?
Users acquire ezSOL by depositing either JitoSOL or native SOL into the Renzo Protocol. When native SOL is deposited, the platform automatically converts it to JitoSOL before vaulting. The ezSOL token then represents the user's participation in securing various Node Consensus Networks (NCNs). As these NCNs operate, users earn a combination of staking, restaking, and Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) rewards. These rewards are not distributed separately but are automatically compounded directly into the user's ezSOL balance, increasing its underlying value over time.
Where do the yields/rewards for ezSOL come from?
The yields and rewards for ezSOL holders are derived from a multi-faceted approach within the restaking ecosystem. Firstly, rewards come from standard staking activities on the Solana network. Secondly, enhanced yields are generated through restaking, which involves re-hypothecating staked assets to secure additional actively validated services (AVSs) or Node Consensus Networks (NCNs). Lastly, a significant portion of the rewards originates from Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) opportunities captured within the network. All these accumulated rewards are automatically compounded back into the ezSOL token, leading to its value appreciating against the underlying assets it represents.
How is ezSOL different from other liquid staking tokens (LSTs) like JitoSOL?
ezSOL distinguishes itself from traditional Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) such as JitoSOL by being a "liquid restaking token" (LRT). While LSTs provide liquidity for staked assets and typically earn basic staking rewards, ezSOL takes this a step further. It is built on top of LSTs like JitoSOL, allowing users to not only earn standard staking yields but also enhanced yields through the process of restaking. This means ezSOL enables participation in securing additional services and networks (like Jito's), effectively leveraging the underlying LST to generate higher potential returns.
What are the risks associated with holding ezSOL?
Holding ezSOL, similar to other liquid restaking tokens, involves inherent risks that users should be aware of. A primary concern is smart contract risk, which refers to potential vulnerabilities or bugs within the protocol's code that could lead to loss of funds. Additionally, there is slashing risk, a common element in proof-of-stake and restaking mechanisms. This occurs if the underlying validators (which your staked assets secure) behave maliciously or fail to perform their duties correctly, resulting in a portion of their staked capital (and potentially yours) being penalized or "slashed." These risks are fundamental to the restaking paradigm.
How can I withdraw my ezSOL, and are there any fees?
Withdrawing ezSOL is a straightforward process, designed to be accessible from the project's inception. Once a withdrawal is initiated by a user, it enters a queuing period. The funds then become available for claim after a duration of two epochs, which can extend up to a maximum of four days, depending on network conditions. Regarding costs, there is a cumulative withdrawal fee of 0.2%. This fee is split, with 0.1% allocated to the Renzo Protocol for its operational services and the remaining 0.1% directed towards the Jito Network, which plays a crucial role in the underlying restaking mechanism.
