pSTAKE Finance is a decentralized protocol that originated as a liquid staking solution designed to unlock the liquidity of staked assets. Developed by the Persistence team, the project addresses the challenge of capital inefficiency in Proof of Stake networks. Traditionally, when users stake their assets to secure a blockchain, those funds are locked and cannot be used in other applications. pSTAKE solves this by allowing users to stake their tokens and receive 1:1 representative tokens, known as stkASSETs, which can be used across the decentralized finance ecosystem to generate additional utility while still earning staking rewards. The project initially focused on assets within the Cosmos and Ethereum ecosystems, such as ATOM, ETH, and BNB. In 2024, it expanded significantly into the Bitcoin ecosystem by launching a liquid staking solution for BTC. Built on the Babylon protocol, this feature allows Bitcoin holders to earn yields by participating in network security without giving up custody of their assets. Through this integration, users receive YBTC, a liquid token representing their staked Bitcoin that can be used in various financial strategies. In late 2024, the project announced a strategic brand transformation into a research-driven laboratory. This new phase, often referred to as PSTAKE Research, explores the convergence of artificial intelligence and Web3 technologies. The current mission involves developing modular asset infrastructure and investigating how intelligent computing can optimize decentralized systems. This includes research into autonomous agents, verifiable AI flows, and predictive optimization for liquidity and governance. The PSTAKE token serves as the primary governance and incentivization tool for the protocol. Token holders can participate in the decision making process by voting on protocol improvements, fee structures, and the onboarding of new validators. Additionally, the token is used to reward contributors and secure the underlying network. The project is supported by prominent venture capital firms and industry leaders, including Binance Labs, Sequoia Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and Galaxy Digital. To ensure the safety of its liquid staking products, the protocol maintains partnerships with several blockchain security firms for regular audits and monitoring.
