These sensors monitor various parameters such as particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and ozone levels. The project uses a model often described as sensing is mining. When sensors transmit valid environmental data to the PlanetWatch platform, the owners are rewarded with PLANETS tokens. This utility token serves several purposes within the ecosystem. It acts as an incentive for participants to keep their devices online and providing accurate data. Additionally, the tokens can be used to purchase Earth Credits, which allow users to access specific products, services, or specialized data sets provided by the network. PlanetWatch organizes its sensors into different tiers or types based on their technical capabilities and whether they are for indoor or outdoor use. The data collected by these devices is validated and then recorded on an immutable ledger, creating a transparent and global history of air quality. This information is intended to be used by researchers, local governments, and individuals to better understand pollution patterns and develop strategies for environmental protection. Beyond data collection, the project involves a governance component. Token holders can stake their PLANETS to participate in the decision-making processes of the protocol.
