PACTUS (PAC) FAQ
What is the Pactus (PAC) project and how was it launched?
Pactus is a unique, decentralized Layer-1 blockchain protocol designed entirely from scratch, rather than being a fork of existing chains like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Its name is derived from the Latin word for "to agree together" or "contract." To ensure a fair distribution, Pactus launched its mainnet on January 24, 2024, without an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) or public sale. The project focuses on accessibility and true decentralization, allowing users to participate in the network's security with minimal barriers to entry.
What is Solid State Proof of Stake (SSPoS) and how does it prevent chain forks?
Pactus utilizes a unique consensus mechanism called Solid State Proof of Stake (SSPoS). This variant of Proof of Stake removes the need for delegation or miners, enabling direct participation from users. The algorithm is designed so that only one valid block proposer exists per round, which effectively prevents chain forks. By maintaining a consistent 10-second block time and utilizing a sortition algorithm to select a rotating committee of 51 validators, Pactus ensures high security and finality without the complexity of traditional staking systems.
What are the hardware and staking requirements for running a Pactus validator?
Pactus is designed to be highly accessible, capable of running on low-power devices like a Raspberry Pi Zero with energy consumption as low as 0.7W. Hardware requirements for a full node include 2 physical CPU cores, 2–4 GB of RAM, and approximately 40 GB of storage. Staking is very flexible: the minimum requirement is just 1 PAC, while the maximum is 1,000 PAC per validator. To enhance network decentralization, users with more than 1,000 PAC are encouraged to run multiple validator nodes.
How are block rewards distributed and what is the maximum supply of PAC?
The total supply of PAC is capped at 42,000,000 tokens. The network generates a fixed reward of 1 PAC per block, resulting in approximately 8,640 PAC daily based on a 10-second block time. Following the PIP-43 update, rewards are split: 0.7 PAC goes to the validator who proposed the block, while 0.3 PAC is allocated to the Pactus Foundation. These foundation funds are dedicated to long-term development, ecosystem growth, and supporting the network's decentralized infrastructure.
Does Pactus have transaction fees and where can the token be acquired?
Pactus utilizes a "consumptional fee model." A standout feature for new users is the ability to perform up to two zero-fee transactions daily, promoting network exploration and ease of use. For those looking to acquire PAC, it is available on exchanges such as LBank or through bridges like Wrapto. This accessibility ensures that users can easily participate in the ecosystem, whether they are sending transactions or setting up their first validator node.
What are the key future developments planned for the Pactus ecosystem?
The Pactus roadmap includes significant technological milestones aimed at expanding the network's utility. In Q2 2026, the project plans to launch a Decentralized Storage Platform, allowing users to purchase dedicated storage files directly on the blockchain. Following this, the Pactus Virtual Machine (PVM) is scheduled for release in Q3 2026. The PVM will introduce smart contract functionality to the network, enabling developers to build decentralized applications (dApps) and further enhancing the Pactus ecosystem's capabilities.
