MINTY is the native token of the Minterest protocol, serving primarily for rewards and governance. Its core purpose is to incentivize participation within the ecosystem by distributing rewards to suppliers and borrowers. Furthermore, MINTY holders can participate in the protocol's governance, influencing its future direction and benefiting from its economic engine which funnels protocol fees back to users as MINTY rewards, once fully deployed. This design aims to foster a sustainable and community-driven decentralized finance environment.

Users can earn MINTY primarily by actively participating in the Minterest protocol. A significant portion of MINTY is distributed as rewards to those who supply assets and borrow funds on the platform. Additionally, by staking MINTY and actively engaging in governance, users are intended to receive a share of the governance rewards. These rewards are generated from Minterest's Buyback engine, which is designed to transfer all protocol fees back to users as MINTY. Minterest also employs a points system, known as Mints, for user participation, with MINTY emissions to be activated later.

Staking MINTY allows token holders to actively participate in the governance of the Minterest protocol and earn additional MINTY tokens. By staking, users gain voting power, which is proportional to the amount and duration of their staked MINTY, enabling them to influence crucial decisions regarding the protocol's development and parameters. During an initial private launch phase, direct manual staking was not available; instead, rewards accrued from supplying or borrowing assets were automatically staked if the governance participation option was enabled by the user. No, there is no difference in the utility, functionality, or purpose of MINTY tokens across the various blockchain networks it supports, including Ethereum, Mantle, or Taiko. The MINTY token is designed to maintain consistent utility regardless of the underlying chain. Users will be able to seamlessly transfer, or "bridge," their MINTY tokens among these supported networks using a bridging solution like LayerZero once the token becomes fully transferable. This multi-chain approach ensures a unified user experience and consistent token value proposition across the Minterest ecosystem.

Minterest strategically deployed on the Mantle Network primarily to address and mitigate the challenge of high gas fees prevalent on the Ethereum blockchain. By leveraging Mantle Network, Minterest aims to significantly reduce transaction costs for its users. This move enables a much broader community to participate in the Minterest protocol's core functions, such as supplying assets and borrowing funds, without being deterred by prohibitive network fees. This deployment decision reflects Minterest's commitment to accessibility and fostering wider user adoption within the decentralized finance space.

In July 2024, Minterest experienced a security incident specifically impacting its Mantle Network deployment. This exploit resulted in the loss of approximately $1.4M in mETH and WETH tokens, alongside manipulation of exchange rates and subsequent user liquidations. It is important to note that only the Mantle Network deployment was affected; the Minterest protocols on Ethereum and Taiko networks remained secure and operational. Following the incident, Minterest committed to ensuring a full recovery of all missing funds for the affected users, demonstrating its dedication to user security and fund integrity.
