Midas mBTC is a permissionless ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network designed to provide exposure to Bitcoin-denominated yield. Unlike standard wrapped Bitcoin tokens that simply bridge assets, mBTC is yield-bearing. This means the token’s value or supply increases over time, reflecting returns generated from institutional lending and market-neutral strategies. It serves as a decentralized Real World Asset (RWA) that allows holders to earn institutional-grade returns on their Bitcoin holdings while maintaining the benefits of on-chain transparency and liquidity.

Midas mBTC is part of MidasRWA, which represents a complete pivot and rebirth of the previous custodial platform. Following industry shifts in late 2022, the project transitioned into a non-custodial RWA protocol. This new model operates under a different legal framework, specifically designed to meet strict European regulations. By moving away from the old custodial model to a decentralized structure, the current ecosystem aims to provide a more secure and transparent environment for users to access Bitcoin-denominated yields.

Yield is generated through strategic partnerships with institutional asset managers and specialized prime brokers. These partners employ market-neutral strategies and engage in BTC-denominated lending to capture returns. The objective is to provide a stable yield without exposing the principal to the directional volatility of the market. This institutional approach allows retail participants to access sophisticated financial strategies that were previously reserved for large-scale professional investors, typically targeting a sustainable annual percentage yield.

Midas mBTC is highly regulated, having received prospectus approval from the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority (FMA). This allows the product to be offered to retail investors across the European Union. Furthermore, the assets are held within a bankruptcy-remote Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) structure. This ensures that the assets backing the tokens are legally ring-fenced and separate from the protocol's operational accounts. Transparency is maintained through security audits of smart contracts and independent verification of the backing by a fiduciary trust company.

As a permissionless ERC-20 token, mBTC is built for DeFi composability. It can be integrated into various decentralized finance applications, such as serving as collateral in lending protocols or being utilized in yield-generating farms. This allows users to not only benefit from the native yield generated by the token but also to optimize their capital efficiency by layering additional DeFi strategies. The token is compatible with popular Web3 wallets, making it easy to manage alongside other digital assets on the Ethereum network.

Midas mBTC is available to retail and institutional investors in the European Union and other international jurisdictions. However, due to regulatory restrictions, mBTC and other related tokens in the ecosystem are not available to residents or citizens of the United States. Additionally, individuals from sanctioned countries are restricted from participating. This strict compliance with regional laws ensures the project remains within the necessary legal boundaries while providing a compliant gateway for global users to access RWA-backed Bitcoin products.
