Nockchain is a Layer 1 blockchain protocol that integrates Zero-Knowledge Proof of Work (ZKPoW) technology. It was launched in May 2025 through a fair process that did not involve pre-mining. The project aims to combine the established principles of sound money with recent research in data availability, app-rollups, and intent-based composability. Nockchain strives to build a robust ecosystem that supports programmability and scalability while upholding security and decentralization. The native digital asset of the Nockchain ecosystem is the NOCK token. NOCK is designed to function as programmable sound money, emphasizing scarcity and security within the network. It initially serves as a neutral store of value and is intended to become a medium of exchange as the ecosystem expands. Nockchain's architecture provides a platform for developers to create applications using its underlying technology. Nockchain's ZKPoW consensus model requires miners to generate and submit zero-knowledge proofs for deterministic computation tasks, rather than only hashing random values. This method is intended to provide strong economic security while also adding verifiable utility to each block that is mined. The network targets a 10-minute block time and incorporates dynamic difficulty adjustments, similar to Bitcoin, to ensure predictable issuance and network stability. The network is structured as a modular base layer and includes the NockApp framework. This framework allows developers to deploy application-specific rollups, also known as "proof-chains," which are linked to the Layer 1 blockchain, enabling scalability without compromising verifiability. The Nockchain transaction model uses a note-based Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) system, enhanced by zero-knowledge proofs and flexible lock scripts, to offer a secure, scalable, and efficient framework for off-chain computation with on-chain settlement. The total supply of NOCK is capped at approximately 4.29 billion units, with scheduled halvings implemented to manage inflation, echoing Bitcoin's deflationary design. All NOCK supply is distributed through mining rewards, fostering decentralization and fair distribution.
