Kyber Network is a decentralized, on-chain liquidity protocol that aggregates liquidity from multiple sources to facilitate instant and secure token exchanges. Established in 2017, the project aims to provide decentralized applications, crypto wallets, and decentralized finance platforms with a single point of access to deep liquidity and the best available exchange rates across various blockchains. The Kyber Network Crystal, commonly known as KNC, is the native utility and governance token of the ecosystem. As an ERC-20 token, it was originally built on the Ethereum blockchain but has since expanded its utility across several other Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible networks, including Polygon, Avalanche, and Arbitrum. One of the primary functions of KNC is governance through the KyberDAO. Token holders can stake their KNC to participate in the decision-making process of the network. By voting on various proposals, such as fee models and network improvements, stakeholders help shape the future development and operation of the protocol. In return for their participation and for securing the network, stakers are eligible to receive rewards, which are typically funded by a portion of the trading fees generated within the ecosystem. The flagship product of the network is KyberSwap, a decentralized exchange aggregator. It utilizes a dynamic market maker protocol designed to optimize capital efficiency and reduce the impact of impermanent loss for liquidity providers. KyberSwap connects various liquidity sources, such as automated market makers and private reserves, to ensure that users can swap tokens seamlessly without relying on a centralized intermediary or an order book. KNC also serves as an incentive for liquidity providers. The protocol uses the token to reward those who contribute assets to liquidity pools, thereby encouraging a deeper and more robust trading environment. Furthermore, KNC can be used as collateral in different decentralized lending platforms, expanding its utility within the broader decentralized finance landscape. In 2021, the KNC token underwent a significant upgrade to enhance its flexibility and adaptability. This transition allowed the KyberDAO to have more control over the token's supply and minting mechanisms to better support innovation and ecosystem growth. The project was founded by Loi Luu and Victor Tran, who envisioned a world where any token could be used anywhere for payments and financial services through a decentralized liquidity hub. Today, the network continues to act as a critical piece of infrastructure in the Web3 space by bridging the gap between various liquidity providers and those in need of efficient token swaps.
