KYBER NETWORK CRYSTAL LEGACY (KNCL) FAQ
What is the difference between Kyber Network Crystal Legacy (KNCL) and the new KNC token?
KNCL is the original version (v1) of the token launched in 2017. In April 2021, the project introduced an upgraded version (v2) and retained the "KNC" ticker for it, while the original token was renamed to "KNCL." The new KNC is designed to be more dynamic, allowing the KyberDAO to upgrade the token contract and adjust the supply to better support ecosystem growth.
How do I migrate my legacy KNCL tokens to the new KNC version?
Holders can migrate their tokens at a 1:1 ratio using the official KyberSwap migration portal. The process requires connecting a self-custodial wallet, approving the migration contract, and then executing the migration. Because this is an on-chain transaction on the Ethereum network, you must have ETH in your wallet to pay for gas fees.
Can I still trade or deposit KNCL on centralized exchanges?
Trading support for KNCL is now very limited as most major platforms, including LBank, have already completed the migration to the new KNC. It is critical to verify which version an exchange supports before attempting a deposit; sending KNCL to an address that only supports the new KNC may lead to a permanent loss of funds. If you hold tokens on LBank, the migration may have been handled automatically.
Why is my KNCL balance not appearing in my digital wallet?
If your balance is not visible, you may need to manually add the KNCL contract address to your wallet. The Ethereum contract address for KNCL is 0xdd974d5c2e2928dea5f71b9825b8b646686bd200. If you have already performed the migration, you will need to add the new KNC contract address to see your updated token balance.
Was KNCL compromised during the KyberSwap exploit in late 2023?
The late 2023 exploit specifically targeted vulnerabilities in the KyberSwap Elastic concentrated liquidity pools. The security breach affected liquidity providers rather than the token contracts themselves. Users holding KNCL or KNC in private wallets or on exchanges like LBank who were not providing liquidity to the affected Elastic pools did not have their tokens directly stolen.
Is there any reason to continue holding KNCL instead of migrating?
KNCL currently lacks utility within the Kyber Network ecosystem. To participate in governance via the KyberDAO, earn protocol rewards, or utilize the latest DeFi features, you must migrate to the new KNC. The legacy token is being phased out, and the primary reason to hold it is to eventually convert it to the new version to regain ecosystem functionality.
