The HEX (PulseChain)(hex) project involves a cryptocurrency known as HEX, originally launched in December 2019 by Richard Heart. HEX is presented as a blockchain-based certificate of deposit, operating initially as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network. Its primary function allows users to "stake" their tokens for specific time frames to potentially earn rewards, with longer staking periods often promoted as leading to higher returns. This staking mechanism involves tokens being committed, and users receiving "T-Shares" that are designed to accumulate daily interest in HEX. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, HEX's model aims to reward its holders directly rather than miners or validators. PulseChain is a layer-1 blockchain project also created by Richard Heart. It was designed to be a more efficient version of the Ethereum network, focusing on lower transaction fees, improved energy efficiency, and compatibility with Ethereum's ecosystem. PulseChain utilizes a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. A key event in its launch was taking a snapshot of the Ethereum network, which resulted in Ethereum users receiving copies of their tokens and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the new PulseChain network. The native token of PulseChain, PLS, was made available through a "sacrifice" phase. PulseChain also introduced its own decentralized exchange, PulseX. HEX exists on both the Ethereum blockchain and the PulseChain blockchain, with the version on PulseChain sometimes referred to as pHEX. The creation of PulseChain was partly intended to mitigate the high transaction fees associated with HEX on the Ethereum network. HEX (PulseChain) operates as a hybrid Proof of Work and Proof of Stake system within the PulseChain ecosystem and adheres to the PRC20 token standard, aiming for compatibility with PulseChain-supporting wallets. The project and its founder, Richard Heart, have been subjects of controversy. HEX has faced criticism and has sometimes been labeled a Ponzi scheme, with critics suggesting that promised high returns may be unsustainable. In July 2023, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Richard Heart, HEX, PulseChain, and PulseX, alleging unregistered offerings of crypto asset securities. The SEC's complaint also included allegations of fraud against Heart and PulseChain, claiming misuse of offering proceeds for luxury items. However, a U.S. District Judge dismissed the SEC's case against Richard Heart in March 2025 on jurisdictional grounds, granting the SEC 20 days to file an amended complaint. Learn more
