Fusaka is a significant technical upgrade for the Ethereum blockchain network, representing the seventeenth major improvement in its history. The name Fusaka is derived from a combination of the earthly city Osaka and the star Fulu, continuing a naming convention used for Ethereum's execution and consensus layer upgrades. The upgrade also implements changes to the network's gas model. It targets an increase in the block gas limit to allow for more transactions per block, while simultaneously introducing a transaction gas limit cap. These measures are intended to improve overall throughput and harden the network against specific types of denial-of-service attacks. For developers and users, this translates to faster transaction confirmations and a more stable environment for complex decentralized applications. In terms of user experience, Fusaka introduces support for hardware-backed signing and passkeys. This development is part of an effort to simplify the onboarding process for non-custodial wallets by allowing users to use device-native security, such as fingerprints or facial recognition, rather than traditional seed phrases. Within the broader Web3 ecosystem, a community-driven token using the same name has emerged. This token is associated with the themes of the upgrade and is positioned as a community-led project on the Ethereum network. It aims to capitalize on the momentum of these network advancements and foster engagement within the Ethereum community. Collectively, the Fusaka project represents a shift toward a more mature and high-performance blockchain infrastructure.
