Fren Pet is a blockchain-based virtual pet game built on the Base network, which is a Layer 2 scaling solution from Coinbase. It functions as an incremental idle game where players adopt, raise, and compete with digital pets, drawing inspiration from classic virtual pet mechanics like Tamagotchi. The project utilizes Progressive Web App technology, allowing users to access the game directly through a mobile browser without needing to download a traditional application from an app store. To start playing, users typically mint a pet NFT. Each pet has a specific lifespan known as Time Until Death. Players must perform consistent care actions to keep their pet alive, primarily by purchasing food using the project's native token, FP. If a pet is not fed before its timer reaches zero, the pet dies and the corresponding NFT is permanently removed from the ecosystem through a burning mechanism. This creates a deflationary pressure on the total number of pets in the game. The gameplay includes several interactive elements beyond basic maintenance. Pets can participate in a Player-vs-Player system often referred to as bonking, where players attack other pets to earn points. Success in these battles depends on a mix of pet levels and a degree of probability. Players can also purchase defensive items like shields to protect their pets from attacks or insurance to provide a grace period if the pet dies. There are also daily mini-games, such as a spin-the-wheel feature, that provide various in-game items or point boosts. The FP token serves as the central utility currency for the entire ecosystem. It is required for almost all significant in-game actions, including minting pets, buying food, and acquiring special items. A portion of the FP spent on these actions is burned, while another portion may be redistributed to the community or the developers. One of the project's core features is a reward system that distributes rewards to players based on their leaderboard standing. Players accumulate points through feeding, winning battles, and other activities. A portion of the network's transaction taxes is collected into a reward pool and distributed to active participants. To claim these rewards, players must burn their accumulated points, which resets their position on the leaderboard and encourages ongoing engagement. By combining social elements, competitive mechanics, and blockchain-based ownership, Fren Pet aims to create a sustainable and interactive play-to-earn environment on the Base blockchain. Learn more
