Dust Protocol, often represented by the ticker DUST, is a decentralized multi-chain utility and governance token originally built on the Solana blockchain. It serves as the primary economic engine and social currency for the DeGods NFT ecosystem, one of the most prominent digital collectible projects in the Web3 space. The protocol was designed to empower community members by giving them a direct say in the management of the project treasury and the direction of future initiatives through a decentralized autonomous organization known as the DeDAO. The token was launched with a fair-distribution model, starting with a supply of zero and reaching a maximum cap of 33.3 million units. It also serves a technical role in promoting censorship resistance and secure communication by utilizing techniques that make network traffic difficult to monitor or block. Over time, the project expanded its reach beyond Solana, implementing cross-chain functionality to include the Ethereum and Polygon networks. This expansion was part of a broader strategy to increase the interoperability of the ecosystem and tap into different blockchain communities. Most recently, the project signaled a significant evolution in its strategy. The development team announced a transition away from the original protocol toward a new asset structure. This move involves the introduction of a new token that utilizes modern standards for digital collectibles, allowing existing holders of the protocol's assets to migrate their holdings into this updated ecosystem.
