DMC is the official utility currency of DeLorean Labs, the Web3 arm of the modern DeLorean Motor Company. While the project is a subject of debate among skeptics due to the general challenges of EV startups, it is a legitimate initiative by the current brand owners. The $DMC token operates on the Sui blockchain. The team selected Sui due to its high transaction speeds, low costs, and innovative ability to handle "on-chain objects." This technical capability is essential for the project's goals, as it allows for the efficient and transparent management of complex data such as vehicle ownership records, reservation NFTs, and ecosystem rewards.

The total supply of $DMC is capped at 12.8 billion tokens. The token has multiple utilities within the ecosystem: it is required for Alpha5 "Build Slot" reservation fees, used for staking (referred to as "Parking") to earn rewards, and acts as the primary currency for the project's marketplace. Furthermore, $DMC holders receive priority access to limited-edition merchandise and VIP brand events. The team plans to use revenue to buy back tokens from the market to sustain the rewards ecosystem.

DeLorean has replaced traditional vehicle deposits with tokenized "Build Slots" issued as NFTs. This approach allows production spots for the Alpha5 EV to be transparently tracked and easily traded on secondary markets. If a reservation holder decides they no longer want to purchase the car, they can sell their NFT slot to another interested buyer. While the final vehicle purchase price may involve fiat currency, the initial reservation process is gated by the $DMC ecosystem.

The project plans to integrate Web3 wallets directly into DeLorean vehicles, allowing owners to earn $DMC tokens through a "Drive-to-Earn" model. Participants can earn rewards by sharing vehicle performance data, such as battery health and mileage, or by meeting specific eco-friendly driving milestones.
