DEGEN began as a cryptocurrency that originated as a meme coin within the Farcaster ecosystem, a decentralized social platform. It has since evolved to focus on offering access to decentralized finance (DeFi) functionalities. DEGEN's tokenomics outline a total supply of approximately 37 billion tokens. The distribution strategy prioritizes community involvement, with 70% allocated to the community. An additional 15% is designated for liquidity pools, ensuring market stability and accessibility. The remaining 15% is reserved for the core team and further ecosystem development. Token distribution primarily occurs through airdrops. Looking ahead, an annual inflation rate of 1% is scheduled to commence in 2028, aiming to sustain ecosystem growth over time.

The Degen Chain, or DEGEN L3, represents a significant component of the DEGEN ecosystem. It is a Layer-3 blockchain constructed on top of the Base network. Its primary design objective is to provide an environment with exceptionally low transaction fees, making it highly efficient. This L3 solution is specifically optimized for supporting and powering Farcaster mini-applications, using the DEGEN token as its native gas currency to facilitate all on-chain operations.
