crvUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin that can be minted against various crypto collaterals approved by the DAO. It functions as a collateralized-debt-position (CDP) stablecoin, allowing users to mint stablecoins by depositing volatile assets. Its peg is maintained by the protocol always being overcollateralized, utilizing stabilization mechanisms like automatically adjusting borrow rates based on supply and demand, and employing "Peg Keepers" who manage crvUSD supply and demand in the market.

crvUSD implements an innovative "soft liquidation" mechanism to significantly reduce liquidation risk. Unlike traditional methods that involve immediate liquidation at a specific price point, crvUSD converts a user's collateral into stablecoins gradually across a smooth range of prices. This process uses a Lending-Liquidating AMM Algorithm (LLAMMA) that rebalances collateral into a Liquidity Pool (LP) position, allowing for continuous, gradual adjustments as the collateral's market price fluctuates.

When the collateral price falls into the selected soft-liquidation range, it becomes tradable within an Automated Market Maker (AMM). During this phase, traders can acquire the collateral by providing crvUSD, which helps to collateralize the loan with stablecoins. In this scenario, adding new collateral is not permitted. Loan health can only be improved by repaying crvUSD, even minimal repayments can effectively stabilize the loan position.
