zkCRO is the native gas token for the Cronos zkEVM blockchain, powered by Veno Finance. It functions as a liquid staked token, where each zkCRO is backed by CRO staked on the Cronos POS chain. Holding zkCRO allows users to earn yield, as its value is designed to reflect accumulated staking rewards over time. It also serves as the utility token for transactions within the Cronos zkEVM ecosystem.

Veno Finance bridges CRO assets to the Cronos EVM chain and stakes them. For every zkCRO issued, Veno Finance provides LCRO (liquid CRO) as backing, which is then locked in a smart contract on Cronos EVM. The yield is generated from these staking rewards. The relative value of zkCRO to CRO dynamically adjusts over time to reflect the accumulation of these staking rewards.

Users can obtain zkCRO by depositing CRO from the Ethereum network onto the Cronos zkEVM Bridge. This process involves staking the deposited CRO into the zkCRO contract, which then mints and bridges zkCRO to the user's wallet on Cronos zkEVM. Additionally, zkCRO can be acquired by swapping on decentralized exchanges, such as H2 Finance. To initiate this, users typically need to possess CRO on the Ethereum network, either by swapping on a decentralized exchange or withdrawing from a centralized platform.

To redeem zkCRO for CRO, users can use the official Cronos zkEVM bridge. The typical process involves withdrawing zkCRO from Cronos zkEVM to the Ethereum network, claiming the zkCRO, and then exchanging it for LCRO. This LCRO can subsequently be unstaked to receive CRO, which usually includes a waiting period, for example, 28-32 days. As an alternative for faster access to CRO, LCRO can be traded within the Cronos EVM DeFi Ecosystem.
