The EVAL Engine is a decentralized framework known as the Evaluation Validation Architecture, specifically designed to assess AI agents. Developed by Chromia’s Data and AI division, it utilizes a specialized Screening Tool to score agents based on critical metrics such as accuracy, truthfulness, creativity, and engagement. Additionally, the engine features a Performance Tracking Tool that monitors the quality and consistency of these AI agents over time, ensuring they maintain high standards within the decentralized ecosystem.

The project integrates Chromia’s relational blockchain infrastructure with the Virtuals Protocol ecosystem. Chromia provides the technical foundation for gas-free, immutable data storage, which is essential for recording AI evaluations. The Virtuals Protocol serves as the initial launchpad and the environment where AI agents, including the EVAL agent itself, operate. This partnership allows the project to combine high-performance data management with a robust platform for AI agent deployment.

The development of EVAL is led by Johnson Lai, the Head of Data and AI at Chromia, and Prem Kumar. The team specializes in the intersection of AI model validation and blockchain architecture. Their expertise is focused on building a scalable, decentralized framework that can provide objective, transparent benchmarking for AI agents, moving away from centralized or opaque validation methods.

Eligibility for the $EVAL airdrop is primarily based on participation in the Chromia and Virtuals ecosystems. The first phase targeted native CHR stakers on the Chromia network and active holders within the Virtuals Protocol. According to the project roadmap, a second airdrop of $EVAL in the native FT4 format is planned. This future phase will be directed toward native CHR stakers once the Chromia-Base bridge and associated liquidity pools are fully operational.

The $EVAL token is central to the platform's ecosystem, offering utility through a subscription model where tokens are required to access premium evaluation reports and benchmarking tools. It also serves as a governance token, enabling stakers to influence protocol parameters and reward distributions. Furthermore, $EVAL is used to incentivize LLM judges and social contributors. The protocol also features a staking mechanism with a multiplier effect, rewarding users who lock their tokens for longer durations with increased governance weight.

The framework leverages Chromia’s unique relational blockchain architecture, which allows for certain on-chain data operations to be recorded without traditional transaction fees. This makes high-frequency AI evaluations scalable and cost-effective. To ensure accuracy, the engine uses a multi-LLM consensus mechanism for its 'judges.' While the proprietary scoring criteria are kept confidential to prevent manipulation, all evaluation results are published as immutable public records, ensuring transparency and trust in the system's outputs.
