What is BOUNCEBIT BTC (BBTC)?

BounceBit is a Web3 project that functions as a Bitcoin restaking infrastructure, aiming to expand Bitcoin's utility beyond simply being a store of value. It integrates elements of both centralized finance (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) in what is termed a CeDeFi approach, to create yield-generating opportunities for Bitcoin holders while also enhancing blockchain security. At its core, BounceBit operates on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Layer 1 blockchain known as the BounceBit Chain. This network is secured through a dual-token staking mechanism where validators stake both bBTC (BounceBit BTC) and the native BB token. This system leverages Bitcoin's inherent robustness while also enabling compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which supports smart contracts and cross-chain interoperability. BounceBit BTC (bBTC) is a wrapped version of Bitcoin designed specifically for the BounceBit chain. Its purpose is to allow Bitcoin holders to actively participate in staking and restaking activities within the BounceBit ecosystem, thereby earning rewards. When bBTC is staked, users receive Liquid Staking Derivatives (LSDs), which can then be restaked into various infrastructures such as BTC bridges, oracles, and data availability layers, further increasing the utility of the staked Bitcoin. The platform also emphasizes liquid custody, which allows users to maintain liquidity of their assets while they are securely custodied. BounceBit offers various use cases within its ecosystem, including BounceClub, a customizable Web3 environment for building decentralized applications, and BB Prime, an institutional-grade platform for tokenized real-world assets.
