Crypto payments company MoonPay has launched a new stablecoin debit card designed for both AI agents and users, allowing them to spend directly from onchain wallets.

The product, called "MoonAgents Card," is a virtual Mastercard debit card that converts stablecoins into fiat at the point of payment, MoonPay said Friday. It can be used at any online merchant globally that accepts Mastercard.

The card is issued through Monavate, a regulated global payments platform and a principal member of the Mastercard network. The launch is part of a new card issuance agreement between MoonPay, Monavate, and Exodus Movement, a self-custodial wallet provider.

"MoonAgents Card links a self-custodial wallet to a Mastercard virtual payment card through Monavate's infrastructure," MoonPay said, noting that while stablecoin debit cards already exist, most are not designed for AI agents and often require users to preload funds or move assets offchain before spending.

For the MoonPay card, Monavate handles the onchain funding and authorization in real time, MoonPay said. If a transaction is declined, funds return to the user’s wallet immediately, MoonPay added, noting that wallet custody is never transferred during the process and approvals can be revoked at any time.

"Agents are already managing wallets, executing trades, and moving value onchain. The one thing they couldn't do was spend at a merchant. Now they can," said Ivan Soto-Wright, founder and CEO of MoonPay.

The card is currently available through MoonPay CLI in the UK and Latin America, with U.S. and EU availability planned in the coming months. Users must complete identity verification before the card is issued, MoonPay said.

AI agents are becoming more advanced and are expected to act like assistants capable of performing tasks, including financial transactions. Last month, Binance founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao said, "AI agents will make 1 million times more payments than humans, and they will use crypto." Coinbase co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong also said, "Very soon, there are going to be more AI agents than humans making transactions. They can’t open a bank account, but they can own a crypto wallet." Meanwhile, Stripe co-founder and president John Collison said in February he expects a "torrent of agentic commerce" to emerge, enabled by stablecoins and high-speed blockchains.

"AI agents are going to transact constantly, at machine speed, across millions of merchants. Exodus has spent a decade building self-custodial wallets for people," said JP Richardson, co-founder and CEO of Exodus. "MoonAgents Card extends that infrastructure to agents, letting them spend directly from an onchain wallet. The wallets and cards that work for that future look nothing like what exists today — and we're building for that future."
