SyrupUSDC is Maple Finance's yield-bearing stablecoin. It is powered by Syrup and allows DeFi lenders to leverage their capital to earn yield. Maple yield is generated from fixed rate, overcollateralised loans to institutional borrowers. These short duration loans enable Maple to provide consistent high yield and short term liquidity for users.
Syrup is Maple's DeFi platform offering decentralized access to Maple's yield generation opportunities.

syrupUSDC is an ERC-20 token representing a user's deposit in the Syrup protocol, the permissionless DeFi arm of Maple Finance. It acts as a "liquid yielding dollar" that tracks the value of USDC while accruing interest from institutional lending. Unlike standard USDC, which remains a flat value, syrupUSDC is an interest-bearing version where the value grows relative to USDC as interest is paid by borrowers or yield is distributed via protocol rewards.
These two tokens serve distinct roles within the ecosystem. syrupUSDC is the yield-bearing asset you receive upon depositing USDC; its primary purpose is to earn interest for the holder. In contrast, SYRUP is the native governance and utility token of the Maple/Syrup ecosystem. It is used for staking, participating in governance votes, and earning protocol-specific rewards.
The yield is generated from fixed-rate, overcollateralized loans provided to institutional borrowers, such as market makers and trading firms. This is considered "Real Yield" because it is derived from actual interest payments made by borrowers rather than inflationary token minting. The base APY typically ranges between 6% and 10%, though users can often find boosted yields through various strategies on integrated decentralized lending and trading platforms.
Loans are primarily protected through overcollateralization with "blue-chip" assets like BTC or ETH. If a borrower’s collateral value falls below a specific threshold, the protocol triggers a margin call or liquidation to protect the lender's principal. Additionally, the protocol utilizes a multi-layered security system, including a pool of "staked SYRUP" that acts as a backstop to cover potential losses. The underlying infrastructure has processed billions in loans and has been audited by top-tier firms like Zellic and Spearbit.
Users have two primary methods for accessing liquidity. They can perform a direct redemption through the Syrup dApp, which typically takes between 2 to 30 days depending on the available pool liquidity. Alternatively, for immediate access, users can perform an instant swap of syrupUSDC back to USDC on various decentralized exchanges. The asset is available across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Arbitrum, providing flexibility for movement and exits.
