What is POLYGON ZKEVM BRIDGED DAI (POLYGON ZKEVM) (DAI)?

Polygon zkEVM Bridged DAI is the version of the DAI stablecoin that operates on the Polygon zkEVM network. It is created through a cross-chain bridging process that allows users to move assets from the Ethereum mainnet to Polygon’s Layer 2 environment. Polygon zkEVM is a scaling solution designed to offer the security and decentralization of Ethereum while significantly improving transaction speed and reducing gas fees. The technology behind this network uses Zero-Knowledge proofs, specifically ZK-rollups. This method involves bundling multiple transactions together off-chain and generating a cryptographic proof to verify their validity. This proof is then submitted to the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring that the Layer 2 transactions are as secure as those on the base layer. Because the network is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, developers can deploy existing smart contracts and decentralized applications without making major changes to their code. The bridging process for DAI involves two main stages. When a user wants to move DAI to the zkEVM network, they interact with a bridge contract on the Ethereum mainnet. This contract locks the original DAI in an escrow account. Once the transaction is confirmed, the bridge system mints an equivalent amount of bridged DAI on the Polygon zkEVM chain for the user. This ensures a one-to-one representation between the locked asset on Ethereum and the newly minted token on the scaling network. Users can also move their assets back to the Ethereum mainnet. This involves burning the bridged DAI on the zkEVM network, which triggers the release of the original DAI from the escrow contract on Ethereum. The security of these transfers is maintained by a unified bridge architecture that uses global exit roots and Merkle proofs to verify that every claim and deposit is legitimate. Within the Polygon zkEVM ecosystem, Bridged DAI serves as a stable asset for various decentralized finance activities. It can be used for trading on decentralized exchanges, participating in liquidity pools, or as a medium of exchange within various applications. By using this bridged version, participants can interact with stablecoin-based protocols with faster confirmation times compared to the Ethereum mainnet. The project represents a key component of the Polygon ecosystem's efforts to provide a more scalable and cost-effective infrastructure for decentralized finance. Learn more

POLYGON ZKEVM BRIDGED DAI (POLYGON ZKEVM) (DAI) FAQ

Functionally, both versions maintain a stable value pegged to the US dollar. However, Bridged DAI exists on the Polygon zkEVM Layer-2 network, which allows for significantly lower gas fees and faster transaction speeds. It leverages zero-knowledge proofs to inherit the robust security of the Ethereum mainnet while providing a more efficient environment for users.
Although commonly called Bridged DAI, a specific implementation by Polygon and the Spark Protocol allows it to function as Native DAI. This mechanism supports a 1:1 conversion process. In some configurations, the assets held in the bridge escrow can even participate in yield-generating protocols, providing additional utility compared to standard bridged assets.
Users can transfer DAI through the official Polygon Portal. The process requires connecting a compatible crypto wallet, selecting DAI on the Ethereum network, and initiating a deposit to the zkEVM chain. It is important to remember that while the transfer is initiated on Layer 1, users often need to manually claim their tokens on the zkEVM side once the validity proof is finalized.
Bridging usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes. If the transaction seems stuck, you may need to manually 'Claim' the tokens in the bridge interface after the proof is generated on Ethereum. If the transaction is complete but the balance is invisible, you must manually add the L2 contract address (0x744c5860ba161b5316f7e80d9ec415e2727e5bd5) to your wallet's token list.
You should exercise extreme caution, as many exchanges do not yet support DAI deposits via the Polygon zkEVM network. Before sending funds to a platform like LBank, always verify that the specific network is supported for deposits. Sending DAI from zkEVM to an address that only supports Ethereum or Polygon PoS will likely result in the permanent loss of your funds.
Polygon zkEVM is designed with EVM-equivalence, meaning it uses the same security logic as Ethereum. While ZK-proofs provide high security, the network is currently in a 'Mainnet Beta' phase. This includes a Security Council that can intervene in emergencies. Additionally, the value of the L2 DAI is dependent on the security of the DAI locked within the Ethereum Layer 1 escrow contract.
